Agricultural Transformation in Zambia – how did it begin?

It began when Barbara Hachipuka sent an email to Alan Imai of Shumei Natural Agriculture in 2004.

It began when Barbara Hachipuka, the program coordinator for the Organization of the Women Farmer’s Cooperatives in Zambia, sent an email to Alan Imai of Shumei Natural Agriculture in 2004. She was attending the Asian-Pacific Youth Leadership Summit in Hiroshima as one of the African representatives. There she met Alan and wanted to pursue working with Shumei Natural Agriculture. At that time, the farmers in Zambia were having difficulty due to the lack of rain and resources needed to buy seeds and fertilizers that were necessary to grow their commercial hybrid seeds.
